Was The Spanish American War A "Just" war?
I think that it was okay to declare war against Spain because the U.S took in Cuba.The U.S was helping Cuba with the war because Cuba was a mess. I think it wasn't okay the way the U.S was acting like imperalist, we did help Cuba, but we didn't give them complete freedom. The foreign policy was unfair because it didn't give Cuba the complete freedom we were controlling them a little. The U.S fought against Spain and the U.S won. After that Cuba got a new constitution.
The imperalist supported the U.S foreign policy because they didn't believe in people having a choice and people having their own beliefs. The imperalist wanted to tell people what to do and to control them. The imperalist believe in having their own way and not having equal rights for everybody. The imperalist believed that god has marked the American people as his chosen nation to finally lead in the regeneration of the world.
The anti-imperalist were against the foreign policy because they don't believe in people controlling them.They believe that they have a choice and they don't want to be told what to do. The anti-imperalist want equal rights. They don't want things to be unfair. They want to be able to do what they want instead of people telling them what they should do and controlling them. The media didn't tell the whole truth they put their own bias to make it seem more interesting and eye-catching.
The role of the media is to strech the truth and to sensationalize the truth and make it more interesting and eye-catching. When the media spoke about about the U.S.S Maine they didn't tell the whole truth about the war because they want it to be interesting. The U.S wants to control Cuba a little because the U.S helped Cuba out. The Platt amendment is like the new constitution because it goes by articles.

Cuba was fighting for their independence. People were dying of hunger and diseases. The U.S helped Cuba so they can get involved in cuba's affairs and help them out. He declared war because of what happened to the U.S.S Maine. That's why he sent more troops to Cuba.
