Civil Rights Timeline

1865 :The Civil War ended.The North won.The North forced the South to accept three new laws. Abolished legal slavery.1865 through the 13 Th amendment to the Constitution . 1868 :It guaranteed African Americans equal rights and equal protection under the law with the 14 Th amendment. 1870 :The 15 Th amendment (1870) gave black men the right to vote. 1860's -1880's :Passing the poll tax to prevent blacks from voting.Getting around the 15 Th amendment.The supreme court made it easier for blacks to vote. 1892: Plessy vs. Ferguson -Ferguson tried to make Plessy understand why everybody is separated .Ferguson told Plessy that separate helps to not have violence.After this court case the Jim Crows laws came. 1954 :Brown vs. Board- This court case was remembered because it helped all the public schools in America get integrated . How Do We Feel About The Racial Gap

Rebecca: How do you feel about the Racial Gap? Evelyn: What i feel about the Racial Gap is that it seems unfair.. The fact that Whites and Asians are engaged in learning then the Latinos and Blacks. Evelyn: What bothers you the most? Rebecca:What bothers me the most about the Racial Gap is that the whites and Asians have better skills in reading and math because their parents push them to do well and the Africans and Latinos parents don't push them. Rebecca : Do you think if the parents of the Latinos and Africans push them that they will do better ? Rebecca:If I was one of those kids I would work hard no matter what.I wouldn't just be in school just to be there.I don't want a bad future and drop out of school because then I won't have a good job.
