How Do We Feel About The Racial Gap
Rebecca: How do you feel about the Racial Gap?
Evelyn: What i feel about the Racial Gap is that it seems unfair.. The fact that Whites and Asians are engaged in learning then the Latinos and Blacks.
Evelyn: What bothers you the most?
Rebecca:What bothers me the most about the Racial Gap is that the whites and Asians have better skills in reading and math because their parents push them to do well and the Africans and Latinos parents don't push them.
Rebecca : Do you think if the parents of the Latinos and Africans push them that they will do better ?
Rebecca:If I was one of those kids I would work hard no matter what.I wouldn't just be in school just to be there.I don't want a bad future and drop out of school because then I won't have a good job.
Rebecca:How would you feel if your parents didn't push you?
Evelyn: At first I would feel like dropping out of school, but before I would do that I would have thought about the consequences on my life....If I would of dropped out of school I wouln't have a good future for me and my kids if I ever have some.....
Rebecca: That was an interesting point. It's tough to not have your parents push you because then you won't have a good future in life. There are a lot of things that happen to kids when their parents aren't there for them. It's a tough time for them because they can't talk to their parents. Some kids only do what their parents did because they think that was a smart choice instead of showing their parents that they can go farther in life.
Evelyn: I actually agree with you.You made a good point. If I was one of thise kids back then I would of probably kept on going to school, so that I can actually become susccessful. I would of love to see my parents die out of jealousy. They would probably be happy for me but not as much as if there were me graduating from college.
Rebecca: My parents would be happy for me if I went to school and finished instead of giving up and dropping out.My parents will be jealous because I will have a better life then them.I will have a good future and they would wish that they finished school instead of not finishing. They will think back about it and they will realize that I finished school with out dropping out.Maybe, sometimes our parents wish they could go back and finish school so they can have a better life then they already do.They would probably more happy about their life.

ReplyDeleteI think what you two put had an interesting point but you wrote "back then" but those statistics are from recent studies so that what it's like now. I also don't think it is only the parents fault but that it could be a factor to why some students drop-out of school. I also don't understand why you would consider dropping out of school solely based on if your parents don't support you
You have a point that sometimes it's not only those reasons. It's other reasons.Sometimes things happen at home.
ReplyDelete"The fact that white, and Asians are smarter then the Latinos and blacks." This statement from your post disturbed me. I hope you both don't believe this. I don't think these statistics we presented are about one group being born smarter than another. It's more complicated than that.
ReplyDeleteI think you not getting the point... What we are trying to say is that most African America parents aren't there for there kids.. Thats why We wrote it like that to see if you would understand it better...
ReplyDeleteYes, I do see that. I think I just got hung up on the beginning. I like how you used it as a hook to get the reader interested in reading. I guess I didn't read carefully enough :). I think the question about what makes a good parent is important. Good work!
ReplyDeleteWe decided to talk about what bothered us.We thought about all the different options that Asians & whites get that African Americans & latinos don't.We thought about the things that could make a kid drop out of school and make a kid want to drop out.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Evelyn about African American parents not being there for there kids because i know plenty of black parents who care for there kids way more than any other parents i don't think that that idea is strong enough for people to think that.
ReplyDeleteI see what you saying Mark. Some black parents do care about their child more than others.Well can you explain a way that Evelyn can make her idea strong?
